Sutton Coldfield Ramblers

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Do I have to be a member of the Ramblers to come on a walk?

          A.  No. You can take part in three ‘taster’ walks before deciding to join the Ramblers.

Q.  Where can I find details of walks?

          A.  Walks are listed by date on our website including Proposed Walks which are planned but haven't yet been                          recced:

Easy grade - fairly good terrain, few stiles, no steep hills.

Moderate grade – some undulations, possibly several stiles, more challenging terrain.

Q.  Do I need to book on a walk?

          A.  No. Just turn up at Wyndley Swimming Pool car park at 08:45 on Sundays and 09:15 for Thursday walks, although if it’s your first walk with us it might be useful to let the walk leader know so that they can look out for you.

Q.  Is it possible to have a lift to the start of the walk?

          A.  We do offer car-sharing, with a contribution towards fuel costs given to the driver.

Q.  What should I wear and bring with me?

          A.  You will need walking boots; clean shoes if you have a lift in someone else’s car; suitable clothing (in layers) for the weather conditions; a waterproof jacket; sufficient food and drink for the length of the walk; something waterproof to sit on as we have picnic coffee and lunch stops; a basic first aid kit and any medication you may need. Bring emergency contact details with you.

Q.  Can I bring my dog?

          A.  We are sorry, but only assistance dogs are permitted on Sutton Coldfield Ramblers’ walks, and then    at the discretion of the walk leader as there may be issues with livestock in fields.

Q.  How much does it cost to join the Ramblers?

          A.  Membership information can be found at www.ramblers.org.uk/membership

Plot Your Own Route and Records:Photos,Routes,Maps, use Ramblers Library software to display walks etc. As part of this facility the software displays various maps. All of the maps have an icon/button in the top right that allows the user to change the background map that is used. The mapping options have been updated. This affects the types of map that can be displayed as the background. The reason for this change is because Bing (or Microsoft who run Bing) are withdrawing their current mapping options later this year, and changing to a facility called Azure. Azure does not provide the same options as Bing. For those of you with a technical bent click here for more details.
