A nine-mile walk, with shorter options, along the River Rea Way from Longbridge to the City Centre, walking north along the Birmingham Greenway. Most of the route is tarmac - no stiles and no mud. For those who would prefer to walk a shorter distance, there is an opt out at the half-way mark to catch the train at Bournville Station, or after 7 miles at Cannon Hill Park to catch a 45 or 47 bus into the city along the Pershore Road. 

(The River Rea rises on Waseley Hill, south-west of Birmingham, and flows 15 miles north-east through the city until it joins the River Tame just south of Spaghetti Junction. It is the river on which Birmingham was founded by the Beorma tribe in the 7th century. Much of the river through the city centre is culverted and not easily visible.)
